About the Meeting:

The meeting will include the presentation and discussion of a number of projects to improve traffic flow and access in the Rock Creek Parkway / Virginia Avenue NW corridors between K Street and Constitution Avenue. These include a project funded by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) to update engineering and environmental impact studies conducted in 2003 by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) with the goal of creating more efficient connections between Rock Creek Parkway and the eight lanes of traffic remaining from the aborted Potomac River Freeway project that links to Route 66. This project holds the potential to increase the efficiency of traffic flow, thereby decreasing transit times, along this important commuter route while at the same time facilitating the diversion of traffic away from the Potomac Riverfront, permitting the creation of a waterfront park linking Georgetown, the Kennedy Center, and the National Mall.

In addition, the FHWA will present an update regarding an ongoing project to improve pedestrian and bicycle access in the same area and transportation planners from the Georgetown Business Improvement District (BID) will present their suggestions for traffic flow improvements at the nexus of Rock Creek Parkway and K Street NW.

Councilmember Jack Evans, District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Jeff Marootian, and stakeholders from the Georgetown BID, the National Park Service (NPS), and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), as well as community members, will be participating.

The meeting will be Co-Chaired by ANC 2A Chair William K. Smith and ANC 2E Chair Joe Gibbons. The agenda for the meeting can be found here.
