At its regular October meeting on Wednesday evening, Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2A unanimously approved a $1,000 grant application from the Home and School Association (HSA) at the School Without Walls at Francis-Stevens.
Funds from the grant will be used to purchase materials for activity tables and book exchange boxes, which will be installed on the school grounds. The grant will support the HSA’s goal of supporting the school community as well as creating a community-gathering place for the surrounding neighborhoods and community members. Additionally, the funds will help beautify the exterior grounds of the school, ensuring a safe and active area for all. Current activity tables on the site provide valuable spaces for play and academic programming for the students at the school, and a place for community members to enjoy an outdoors area. The addition of five more activity tables through the ANC 2A grant will help further this collaborative use.

The School Without Walls at Francis-Stevens Home and School Association supports the students, teachers, and staff at School Without Walls at Francis-Stevens through financial support for instructional resources, professional development for teachers, field trips, in-school programming and many more opportunities to enhance the education of our students. We work in partnership with teachers, administrators and other staff at the school. Additionally, the HSA partners with surrounding businesses, organizations, companies and elected officials to work collaboratively to support the neighborhood and community of Foggy Bottom and West End.
About the School Without Walls at Francis-Stevens:
The School Without Walls at Francis-Stevens is a culturally diverse community of pre-School through 8th grade students where students are challenged academically and are nurtured and encouraged to perform at their full potential. Students are socially and academically prepared to enter selective, college preparatory high schools, and to be global citizens who embrace diverse cultures and peoples. The school currently serves more than 400 students from across all eight wards in the city.
